Last month, James sat me down before our session.
"Look, man, I'm not sure what else to try. You're doing everything right on paper. Have you had your hormones checked?"
I made an appointment that afternoon.
Dr. Rodriguez went through the full panel. Thyroid, testosterone, the works.
A week later, I was back in his office.
"Everything's normal," he said, sliding results across his desk. "Testosterone is 520—right in the middle of the range for your age."
"Then why can't I lose this?" I gestured at my midsection.
He glanced at my chart. "How much do you drink?"
"Not much. Maybe two, three times a week. Wine with dinner, couple beers on the weekend."
He nodded slowly. "That wouldn't typically interfere with fat loss at those levels."
I left his office more frustrated than when I arrived.
Everything was "normal." Everything should be "working."
But it clearly wasn't.
